Reject Shop offers extra choice

HE name may be unfortunate, but the opening of The Reject Shop in Gardentown yesterday proved to be good fortune for Christmas bargain hunters.

Southern Queensland area manager Gerard Leehy said The Reject Shop had been trying to set up a branch of their discount variety store in Toowoomba for some time.

“We’re hoping to end up with three Reject Shops in Toowoomba over the next few years,” Mr Leehy said.

“We have a store in every capital city, but we’ve started to concentrate on country towns.

“We opened a store in Gatton two weeks ago.”

Mr Leehy said he knew what opening up a store so close to Christmas meant.

“It’s going to be difficult with the demand that comes during openings and Christmas time. But it’s good to offer shoppers a bit of extra choice for their Christmas shopping.”

Mr Leehy said there were around 25 people waiting at the front of the store when it opened at 8.30am yesterday.

“We’ve had a lot of feedback from our Warwick and Dalby stores saying how they’d like a Reject Shop in Toowoomba,” he said.

“We’re excited to see it finally here.”

Mr Leehy said the Toowoomba store employed 22 local staff.
